After 38 years of teaching school in the US and abroad, I had mixed feelings, at first, about retiring to work on this web store. I do miss the kids; they kept me young at heart, not to mention agile physically.
On the other hand, I am really enjoying the realization of a different dream. Like Miss Rumphius in the children's book, I have travelled to far-away places, moved back to my home near the sea, and now I must do my part to make the world a more beautiful place. I hope I will be of service to you in your creative work and in your personal search for beauty and harmony.

A year later and I'm working full-time again with not much time to spend on my site. But that's OK. As long as I can break even, I'll stay in business and wait for better times. At least reproduction fabric doesn't go out of style!
The economic crisis hurts us all, whether personally or through family members out of work or in foreclosure. My family hasn't escaped.
Having lived equal years both here in the US and overseas, I have an insider-outsider perspective. One thing I realize about my country is that it really does have an uncanny ability to reinvent itself and rise again, phoenix from the ashes. Hopefully, the crisis will help us clarify our values and we'll realize again that strength of character is more important than consumer goods. We'll get back to work, using our ingenuity to find creative solutions to big problems and win back our self-respect and that of the world. I believe we CAN do it!
